They website is broken too. Slow Downloads, Strange instructions, incomplete directions. = no help. If we can't figure it out they how can the end user?

What a waste of time! After more than a :45 wait, a very nice young lady came on an admitted she did not know anything and offer to redirect me to their paid support. This is AWFUL support. Worse than if they just discontinued it completely. If they just stopped we would not waste our time.
Microsoft runs the support like a bad joke.

My mission is to find and bring other options to the table. Hopefully Microsoft will feel the heat if it see enough people refuse to continue with Microsoft.
Don't use Microsoft's Internet Explorer, (for web browsing) as it has many disadvantages, far to many to list here. Mozilla is a good replacement, and can be reinstalled without destroying your operating system.
Use XP pro but turn off Auto updates (you won't need most of them if you don't use IE), Microsoft firewall, replace it with zonealarm, and I like to add Finjan's SurfinGaurd Pro (out of print).
Install Avast anti-virus, it is free right now.
Replace Microsoft Office with Sun Micro system's Office. I have to believe they see the opportunity to gain product recognition and market share. Even though Sun's product is free if it replaces Microsoft's Office Sun will be able to sell their upgrades and dethrone MS.
Don't run your PC in administrator mode! This will save you system!!!
Make sure you IE start page is set to blank, and IE is not the default browser.
The largest and most profitable company ever is on a witch hunt looking for pirated software. In their book if you install their product more than once you are the pirate. For years many people bought Microsoft office and installed it on every computer in the household. It is illegal, but a common practice, and it made Microsoft's products familiar, indispensable, a value, and Microsoft never suffered from the looks of their corporate report. I looked at software like a wrench that was use to fix your son's car, it would be silly to say you need to buy another one to fix you wife's, so I warned my customers but said nothing else. The truth is that almost all could not afford to start a business and pay Microsoft's full price. If Microsoft had had "Windows Genuine Advantage" in the early days, there would be far fewer PCs today, look at Apple Computer's market share.
Windows XP operating systems that can not be reclaimed from a junk system is an outrage! If you buy a product and your system fails you need to do a reinstall, but under Microsoft's program you must rebuy the OS? This is silly. We commonly reclaim RAM, Cases, Hardware, and anything else we can salvage why should the operating system be replaced.
But along comes "Windows Genuine Advantage" or should we say "disadvantage" Microsoft is trying to make the cost of owning a PC much more expensive when their other system (of validation) has brought them to the top
Reality; You have to run Microsoft operating systems, sadly there just is nothing else in operating systems. Upgrades? It is to pricy, a retail copy of windows XP cost about $100 - $200 and you can buy a complete computer (OS and new hardware) for about $400. So how can you afford to upgrade? You can't! Obviously the pricing to large manufacturers is no where close to retail. So don't, just buy the new PC but don't buy Microsoft products retail when there are other options.
My big rub is you can't salvage your operating system software from your junk computer. This is just silly.
