So you got a new PC or Laptop and you can't wait to get started you open the boxes ant plug it in, If you don't use a UPS (Battery backup) you are already in trouble.

For your new PC, you will need (in order);

A UPS (Battery Backup) a 500VA or larger. Don't settle for a surge protector, or much worse plugging it into the a/c directly.
An anti-Virus package. Norton and McAfee have been watered down over the years right now Avast is free and wonderful!
An anti-Spyware package. Spybot will get you started but it can be a bit tricky to setup right.
Something to get the Demo "Crapware" out of your new machine. http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/files/PC-Decrapifier-1.8.zip Yes it is loaded from the factory!
Graphics Programs. XNVIEW, and PhotoFilter are the best offered for any price.
Office, Spreadsheet and word Processing The best is; "Open Office" http://www.openoffice.org/ it is free. Save the $200 Microsoft charges, this does the same job for free.
A backup Program. SyncBack is the best!
Software/AV-Codes_Win/code_pack_Setup.exe To get Audio and Video systems to work.
Recommended Free Software This is optional stuff you will want.
